Planning Ahead

Me: “I got you a surprise while I was in Maryland.”
My Four Year Old: “What is it? What is it?”
Me: “You’ll see in just a minute when we get home.”
Her: “Is it a robot?”
Me: “No, it’s not a robot.”
Her: “Is it a flowerpot?”
Me: “No.”
Her: “Is it a flower?”
Me: “No.”
Her: “Is it a robot?”
Me: “You already asked if it was a robot. It isn’t a robot.”
Her: “Awwwww. Oh, is it a tree?”
Me: “No, it’s something small enough to fit in my suitcase.”
Her: “Is it a Math Robot? If it’s a Math Robot it could help me with my math homework.”
Me: “You don’t even have math homework.”
Her: “But my sister does, so one day I will. Get me a math robot before I have math homework Puh-Leeeese!”

Can’t Say

My four year old (watching TV): “Daddy, what does mas arriba mean?”

Me: “Well mas means more and arriba means up.  Since he is saying it to someone climbing it means ‘more up’ or ‘higher’.  Can you say mas arriba?”

My four year old: “Well I can say arriba, but I can’t say mas.”

Garbage Truck

My four year old: “Daddy, the garbage truck at my school is blue.”

Me: “Oh, can you see it from the playground?

Her: “Yes, every day when the blue garbage truck comes all the kids, even me, run to the fence. All the kids but me yell garbage truck, garbage truck.  I cover my ears because they’re all yelling.”
